The Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Kenya to UNESCO is looking for a qualified and dynamic individual to fill the following position:

Job Title: Research Assistant- One (1) position

Type of contract: Fixed Term


The Research Assistant will:

  • Conduct research, compile and analyse information and documentation on all issues assigned;
  • Liaise with the relevant government agencies, UNESCO and partner organizations to ensure maximum benefit in the implementation of the assigned UNESCO programme at country level;
  • Provide updated briefs on the assigned programme;
  • Assist in the preparation and coordination of meetings and provide input;
  • Participate in meetings as assigned and prepare reports;
  • Establish and enhance networks within UNESCO and partner organizations;
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of delegation’s strategic plan;
  • Contribute to the development of the delegation’s website and provide articles on the assigned programme for the website;
  • Prepare progress reports on implementation of the agreed objectives;
  • Undertake any other duties and responsibilities as may be required from time to time.
  • Be up to date with UNESCO activities relating to the assigned programme;
  • Monitor and follow up on all issues relating to the assigned programme with the relevant government agencies, UNESCO and partner organizations;

 Skills and Competencies

  • Good knowledge of UNESCO’s areas of competence namely Education, Natural Sciences, Social and Human Sciences, Culture and Communication and Information;
  • Good knowledge of the United Nations system;
  • Results-oriented and committed to continuous learning;
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to draft in English and French (letters, briefs, reports, presentations, etc.);
  • Excellent communication skills for effective dialogue with staff, UNESCO secretariat, delegations, external partners and clients;
  • Ability to work in a dynamic multilateral and multicultural environment;
  • Proficient in Information and Communications Technology;
  • Dynamic, flexible and a team player;
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision ;
  • Good organizational and coordination skills;
  • Ability to conduct Web-based research;
  • Ability work under pressure and meet strict deadlines;
  • Excellent command of both English and French;
  • Knowledge of other languages will be an added advantage.

Education Background

Hold a first degree in a discipline related to UNESCO’s mandate.

Qualification and Experience

  • Proof of relevant experience
  • An advanced degree (Master’s or equivalent) will be an added advantage
