Celebration of Kenya’s 48th Independence Anniversary
Members of the Kenyan community gathered at the Kenya Embassy in Paris on Friday, 9th December 2011, to celebrate Kenya’s 48th Jamhuri (Independence) Day anniversary. The event which brought together over one hundred people was jointly organized by the Kenya Embassy and the Kenya Delegation to UNESCO.
H.E. Mary M. Khimulu, PhD., Kenya Ambassador to UNESCO who was absent during the Anniversary, was represented by her Senior Management Team.
The gathering was addressed by H.E. Mrs. Salma Ahmed, Kenya’s Ambassador to France, Mr. Stephen N. Kinuthia of the Kenyan Community Abroad (KCA) - France Chapter, and Mr. Laban Mburu, Regional Manager, Kenya Investment Authority, Kisumu.
Ambassador Ahmed also led a tree-planting ceremony on this occasion in honor of the late Professor Wangari Maathai, environmental and political activist, and the 2004 Nobel Peace Laureate, who passed away in September.
