Kenya Permanent Delegation to UNESCO Explores Collaboration with GAIA International

Paris, France – 3 October 2025

This week, the Kenya Permanent Delegation to UNESCO held a productive meeting with GAIA International, represented by its President and Founder Mr. Gianni Valenti and Director Ms. Johanna Auguin.

Discussions focused on GAIA’s flagship initiatives — Guardians of Gaia, an environmental education programme for children, and Mare Nostrum, a Mediterranean student expedition for marine conservation — and on the possibilities of extending these innovative programmes to the Kenya coast and the Indian Ocean region.

Aligned with Kenya’s Blue Economy AgendaVision 2030, and UNESCO frameworks, the prospective partnership aims to strengthen ocean literacyempower youth, and integrate traditional knowledge with modern science for sustainable development.

Representing the Delegation were H.E. Amb. Prof. Peter Ngure (Head of Delegation), H.E. Amb. Kasera Achayo(Deputy Head of Delegation), and Ms. Jacinta Waweru (Education Attaché).
