Preparatory Meeting for the International Conference on Heritage Authenticity and Integrity in Africa

The Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Kenya to UNESCO was honored to participate in the Preparatory Meeting for the International Conference on Heritage Authenticity and Integrity in Africa, held in Nairobi, Kenya. This Preparatory Meeting forms part of the ongoing efforts by the Scientific Committee to prepare for the upcoming conference set to take place from 5th – 9th May 2025, in Nairobi, Kenya at the United Nations Gigiri Complex.

This important gathering brought together key stakeholders in the heritage and cultural sector to lay the groundwork for the upcoming international conference aimed at addressing the pressing challenges and opportunities surrounding the authenticity and integrity of heritage across the African continent.

Representing Kenya at the meeting were Amb. Prof. Peter Ngure, Ambassador and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, and members of the Kenya Permanent Delegation to UNESCO. Their presence highlighted Kenya’s continued leadership in the preservation and promotion of Africa’s diverse cultural and natural heritage within the framework of UNESCO’s values.

The Nairobi meeting served as a platform to initiate dialogue, build consensus, and shape the agenda for the main conference, which will seek to foster deeper understanding and cooperation among African nations in protecting the continent’s heritage from threats such as climate change, urbanization, and globalization.

The Delegation reaffirms Kenya’s commitment to safeguarding its own heritage, while also contributing to continental and global efforts to protect the authenticity and integrity of cultural and natural sites for future generations.
