Education

The Permanent Delegation of Kenya to UNESCO is dedicated to advancing education as a fundamental pillar for Kenya’s national development and global competitiveness. Our efforts focus on promoting inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4).

We work in partnership with UNESCO to implement educational reforms that address key areas such as:

  • early childhood education,
  • Basic and higher education,
  • Technical and vocational training (TVET),
  • Lifelong learning opportunities.

Kenya prioritizes improving access to education, especially for marginalized communities, women, and girls, to ensure no one is left behind. The Delegation actively participates in global initiatives such as the Global Education Coalition, which brings together diverse stakeholders to tackle educational disruptions, and the Greening Education Partnership, promoting education that prepares learners to address climate change and sustainability challenges.

Additionally, Kenya benefits from UNESCO’s vast network of resources, including UNESCO Chairs, Category 1 Institutes, and Category 2 Centers, which offer technical expertise and research to further strengthen educational programs. Through UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet) and Learning Cities, Kenya supports global citizenship education, digital literacy, and 21st-century skills development to prepare young people for the challenges of the future workforce.

Our collaboration with UNESCO also extends to policy advocacy, helping Kenya align its educational strategies with international standards and best practices. By leveraging UNESCO’s leadership in education, Kenya aims to enhance its educational outcomes, foster innovation, and empower future generations to drive sustainable development and economic growth.
