Social & Human Sciences

Kenya’s engagement with UNESCO’s Social and Human Sciences programs is centered around promoting inclusive, equitable, and resilient societies. Through these programs, Kenya addresses key social challenges such as youth development, gender equality, human rights, and social justice. Our involvement in UNESCO’s initiatives helps inform evidence-based policies that foster social cohesion, reduce inequalities, and build sustainable communities.

Youth Empowerment

A major focus for Kenya is youth empowerment, where we work with UNESCO to create opportunities for young people in leadership, education, and employment. This is achieved through active participation in programs like Management of Social Transformations (MOST) and Youth Forums, which offer platforms for young Kenyans to contribute to policymaking and development efforts. By investing in the next generation, Kenya is building a future where young people can thrive and drive positive change.

Gender Equality

Kenya is also committed to promoting gender equality through UNESCO’s frameworks. By advancing women’s participation in science, education, and governance, Kenya strives to close the gender gap and ensure that women and girls have equal opportunities to contribute to national and global development. We collaborate with UNESCO to implement gender-sensitive policies that empower women, protect their rights, and promote their well-being.

Sports and Physical Education

In the field of sports and physical education, Kenya supports UNESCO’s efforts to promote physical activity as a tool for health, education, and social inclusion. Through initiatives like Quality Physical Education (QPE) and the International Convention against Doping in Sport, Kenya ensures that sports contribute to personal development and societal cohesion, while upholding fairness and integrity.

Kenya’s partnership with UNESCO’s Ethics of Science and Technology programs enables us to engage in discussions around the ethical implications of new technologies, such as artificial intelligence and biotechnology. By promoting ethical principles in scientific advancements, Kenya aims to ensure that technological innovations benefit society while safeguarding human rights and dignity.

Through its active role in the Social and Human Sciences sector, Kenya is working to build a just, peaceful, and equitable society where all citizens can contribute to and benefit from national progress.
