Strengthening Africa’s Higher Education Landscape: Kenya and Norway Co-facilitating Campus Africa: A Priority Africa Flagship Programme
The Permanent Delegation of Kenya to UNESCO in collaboration with The Permanent Delegation of Norway are co-facilitating Campus Africa. Campus Africa is a UNESCO flagship programme operating within the framework of UNESCO’s Operational Strategy for Priority Africa 2022-2029, and in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the African Union 2063 Agenda – ‘The Africa We Want’, in particular, its goal on “well-educated citizens and skills revolution underpinned by science, technology and innovation”. To support African Member States in addressing present and future challenges for sustainable development, the programme was launched with the objective to support the building of integrated, inclusive, and quality tertiary education systems and institutions in the Continent. Under the auspices of the Group of Friends for Priority Africa, Campus Africa has enrolled 17 Member States. The flagship programme has entered the implementation phase with the following aims:

  • Enhancing professional research management of African higher education institutions and increasing research outcomes with effective networking.
  • Promoting mobility and equity through Campus Africa support to doctoral studies and scholarships for PhD fieldwork.
  • Improving relevance through youth skill development and employability in technical higher education and focus on gender equality.
